Saltees 20/06/09
Location: Saltees
Duration: 8am - 12:30pm
Tackle: Feathers and lures
Was out early this morning to have a crack at the saltees from Kilmore Quay off the kayak. Paddled straight out to the smaller of the islands and had a few drifts with feathers on the way had a few small Pollock and got some type of Launce/sand eel just of the smaller of the two islands. Pulled the kayak up onto the rocks to have a quick inspection of the island. Just some derelict buildings, animal sheds etc. Hopped back into the kayak to have a go in the channel between the islands where i heard using deep divers can get bass in some spots. No such luck i'm afraid but i manged 6 Pollock in the 4-7lb range which were a night mare to get into the kayak. All was goin well until my deep diver got caught on the bottom and it was bye bye to my favorite plug . I was talking to a man back at the pier in kilmore who was telling me it can be bass heaven if you know what reefs and tides to fish. Gonna have to try and convince barry to get the boat down there at some stage but i don't think his arm will take too much twisting.
No pics i'm afraid folks, dropped the camera into the backstrand recently

good stuff gerry ,great report good fishing even tho the bass avoiding you 4-7lb pollock is as good as it gets and in the kayak must of pulled you around a bit and paddling out to saltees big shoulders on you after it.
