food festival boat competition 2011
Angus will put up full report and results but here is how we got on. Myself Gerry and Declan went out in my boat and had some good fishing with lines down at 11am and out for 10 to give hour to try for mackerel but we could find only loads of cod and pollock and wrasse did manage to hit a few mackerel at ten to 11. When the competition started fishing was slower but steady with loads of ling and some nice pollock as it was a nominated 5 species hunt for biggest of each we were fishing, all big so kept away from all smaller stuff but still managed 10 species (dog to 3.1lb, pout, poor cod, codto3.5, ling to 4lb, grey gurnard, dab, ballan wrasse, pollock to 4lb, mackerel). When moved back to mark for cod drift was too strong so gave last hour on clean ground for flats and managed some dabs. Great day out and weather best we got so far this year. Two of us ended up with 4 of the nominated coalies avoid us all.

Have to say that was a teriffic days fishing, not often you have to avoid cathing good Cod and Pollock in an effort to catch Mackerel. Great day despite being almost run down by a charter boat

Re: food festival boat competition 2011
Well the weather gods shinned on the comp with a brief window, as mentioned, plenty of the cod turning up and a good few pollock and small ling.
Coalfish were a little small but a good few around, wind freshend in the afternoon, but a good day was had by everyone

Re: food festival boat competition 2011
I hope next time there might be a list of rules supplied to avoid any confusion as to what is required to be returned for the weigh in and maybe to win the competition.
